My name is Shawness but I am also known as the Swaggy Sassy Scholar. My blog is new but I have a had a web presence for awhile. I started this blog so that I could have a place to engage with people in an open and authentic way and to share what I know about teaching and learning.

I was a classroom teacher, among other things for about 27 years. I have since transitioned into independent education consulting. As a consultant I get an inside look at student, teacher and family challenges from the outside. This positioning allows me to often see from a perspective that everyone does not have and think of creative solutions.

I mentioned three things I want to accomplish with this blog-engagement, teaching and learning. Let me be more specific, I want to talk about brain development and how -children learn. I want to highlight how parents are the children’s first teachers and ways that they can be better stewards of their children’s learning. I want to offer tips, tricks and ideas to teachers. I also want to talk about things that make me think or feel.

When you visit this blog, I hope that you laugh, or feel empowered or heard or even comforted. I am glad you are here and I hope you stay for awhile.
